EA FC Mobile – side show or more?

The former FIFA and current EA FC game series has always attracted a specific group of people to it: gamers playing EA FC a lot are usually fans of the game of football, rather than die-hard esports enthusiasts, and many of them do not play many more games than EA FC. In that world, EA FC Mobile is an interesting and portable alternative, but one that has been looked at differently than the “real deal”.

But, if our experience is anything to go by, EA FC Mobile is really a hidden gem – the game might be more casual, but the popularity of the game tells a different story. Is this just the “lighter” version of the real thing, or a standalone game?

Of course, the elephant in the room is this: you play the mobile version with a phone, and controls are on the screen. This makes it a bit strange to pick up and play, and takes a lot of getting used to. From experience, the “real” EA FC is not easy to play on a high level, but doing the same dribbles on a phone requires some real finger athletics.

The real athletes are those who apply for the EA FC and EA FC Mobile weeklies.

The mobile version is surprisingly detailed for a mobile game, as well. When seen on the big screen, it is very similar to the FIFA games from a couple generations ago. Sure, it does look like a mobile game, but the graphics really make you stand and think about how they managed to do it in a phone game.

Same, but different

There is a lot of crossover with the original game as well. There is the famous FUT mode, ranked modes, events and many more, but the mobile version does have its specifics, especially microtransaction-wise. This is because the mobile game is free, contrary to the real deal.

To appeal to audiences where mobile gaming is prevalent, such as Asia or parts of South America, the mobile version needed to be accessible, which does impact the experience for those used to the real game.

In the A1AL, the mobile game has been a success, to the surprise of many. What makes it even more interesting is that the game is popular with the audiences as well as players, further proven by almost 500 applications we’ve  received for the first round of the EA FC Mobile Weekly tournaments.

This weekend brings the first round of playoffs and our first winner, but we have prepared another round of Weekly events later in Spring for those interested in more EA FC Mobile. Make sure you watch the events and prepare for the next round. If you are interested in the console and PC version, there is still time to apply to the Weekly there as well!
